Education

Mattias Kordel studied chemistry at the University of Mainz and – with emphasis on physical chemistry and physics – at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. He wrote his Diploma thesis at the Institute for Nanotechnology at the Research Center Karlsruhe on the topic of photodissociation spectroscopy. He then worked on the topic of fluorescence measurements of trapped molecular ions in gas phase at the Institute for Nanotechnology (Research Center Karlsruhe) and achieved his Doctorate at the Technical University of Karlsruhe in the year 2007.

From 2007 to 2010 he trained in the field of Intellectual Property Law at Gleiss & Große, spending time at the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court and the District Court of Mannheim.

Since 2007 Mattias Kordel is concerned with the preparation of patent applications, with opposition and inter partes proceedings as well as with expert opinions, infringement analyses, validity analyses, and due-diligence proceedings. The emphasis is mainly in the field of internal combustion engines, in particular large diesel engines, power train, drive systems, automotive engineering, car body construction, physics/mechanics, physical chemistry, special tools and machines, electrical and hydraulic systems, medical technology systems and devices. In addition, he is familiar with the application and prosecution of designs and trademarks, national and international. Mattias Kordel attends clients from German and international, large and medium-sized enterprises as well as from university and commercial research institutes and start-up enterprises.

Mattias Kordel was admitted as a German Patent Attorney in 2010. He is admitted at the German Patent- and Trademark Office (DPMA), the German Federal Patent Court (BPatG), the European Patent Office (EPO) and the OHIM. He is also admitted at the German Federal Supreme Court (BGH) in connection with nullity actions, proceedings concerning supplementary protection certificates and compulsory licenses. He is also admitted at the Bundessortenamt (Federal Bureau for Protection and National Listing of New Plant Varieties) concerning the protection of new plant varieties.

He is also member of the German Physical Society (DPG).
